The discussion as to what constitutes a yacht has been long debated. Some people use the following table:

  • 0-30 ft = Boat
  • 31-199 ft = Yacht
  • 200-999 ft = Ship
  • 1000 ft + = Island

To help clarify this matter, we've compiled some common definitions of vessel lengths.

The popular reference website Ask.com also says, “A leisure boat typically must be more than 30 feet long to be considered a yacht, according to the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology. Smaller vessels are usually labeled pleasure boats or recreational boats. However, sometimes slightly shorter boats that are clearly expensive and elegant are categorized as yachts.”

No matter what size boat you'd like to move, we can help. If you’d like to hire us to move a vessel that’s over 30 feet in length, please refer to our Yacht Transport section. If the vessel you’d like us to move is under 30 feet, please refer to our Boat Transport section. Sailboat movers should please refer to our Sailboat Transport section.
